How to Play Whizz Bean

Aim – Be the first to lay down 3 sets of 3 cards, each using a different phonics strategy.

Shuffle and Deal – Everyone starts with 8 cards.

Read and Match – On your turn, pick a card and see if it completes a set of 3 cards (e.g. lane, same, plane).
Use your special Whizz Bean cards if you have one!

Winner – The first to lay down 3 sets wins the game!

  • Whizz Bean has been a hit with my 11-year-old son. It's been hard to find games that don't feel like hard work for his dyslexic brain, but he is happy to play Whizz Bean. The game is very adaptable, and I can adjust the deck to focus on specific phonics sounds. It's also great that there is an element of luck involved, so it's not always the best reader or speller that wins (I have also given myself harder rules to ensure he wins for those times that he needs a win).

Each box contains everything you need for a game of collect, read and match. Players take turns reading their cards aloud and matching sounds, racing to collect sets and win.
